Hidden Links on BestBuy.com

BestBuy Hidden Link

I was just about to go running when I remembered that every time I go running, my headphones fall off. They are the ones that came with my Android G1 and they sound fantastic… but they are not made for working out or running.

What I really need are running headphones. So I go on BestBuy’s website to try to figure out what time their local store closes so I could go grab a decent pair of headphones before I go to the gym.

I get on their website and spend at least 2 minutes trying to figure out how to find their local store phone number. I was almost about to give up when I noticed that the words at the top of the page weren’t a slogan or design elements. They are links. Links??

Tip: If you want people to click on your links, make sure people can tell that they are links. If it even remotely seems like a banner or an ad or just design elements, people will sub-consciously ignore them.

This design decision is similar to the one made by MenuPages to design their search box to feel as part of the design.
