Should you keep your big idea a secret until you’ve got lots of traction in the marketplace?

This is a question that many people ask themselves when they are in the process of building a company. There are so many pros and cons that most people simply go the safe route and keep their thoughts to themselves. Today I’d like to give an important  reason for sharing your big idea: Nobody will believe you anyway!

When you’re building a company, your vision will not be easy to see for others. They won’t get where you’re trying to go and what you think it will take to get there. They simply won’t believe that the problem is as big, the solution as impactful or the opportunity as golden as you do.

Chances are the journey will be drastically different than what you think it will be. The product you’re building is likely the wrong product. The market you’re going after is likely not in as much pain as you think they are. The competitive edge you think you have will likely not be a factor at all. However, you have a vision that is motivating you to walk the walk.  You have the power of clarity.

Clarity is a powerful force. It allows you to take action now. The more you act, the more you’ll refine your understanding of your customers, their pains & desires and how you can be of help. Share your big idea, because it is likely not that big of an idea but sharing it, talking about it and acting on it will lead you to your BIG ideas. Once you start getting real feedback on what is working and what isn’t, you’ll be in a much better position to win big!
