Be Short, Simple & Overt

Straight-forward writing is better at generating sales.

It’s even more important when marketing online or dealing with people who don’t know you yet. Aim for clarity, not quantity.

I love this quote by T. S. Elliot:

“If I had more time, I’d write you a shorter letter.”

A sales professional will usually send a similar email to prospects over time. If someone calls, I’ll ask them questions to identify what they really need and if I can help them, tell them a bit about how I can help, schedule an appointment to talk in more detail and send out an email with some information to look through until we meet.

If you haven’t already, I suggest you create a few email templates for the various types of emails you routinely need to send. And in crafting this email, aim to be short, simple and overt about the benefits they will receive. Why? So they’ll actually read it, understand it and think about it. If it’s long and they decide to not read it, your email is just junk mail taking up inbox space.

PS: If you use Outlook, click here for a nice tutorial to show you how to create an email template that you can reuse.
